Some fossils are version exclusives, so click this link to see which fossils you can hunt. There aren’t any new fossils in the Alolan region, but you can obtain all the old fossils(minus the Old Amber) by either buying them from Olivia’s Jewelry store in KoniKoni City or receiving some from the Poképelago Isle Aphun rare treasure search. You can soft reset for fossil Pokémon in these games by bringing them to the Fossil Restoration Center along Route 8 on Akala Island. It’s about 3-5 minutes of a wait to see if it’s shiny or not. You can soft reset for the starters, but just like in X and Y, there is a long cutscene before you can pick your starter. To soft reset on these games you need to hold down L, R, Start, and Select at the same time. Morellul (you can get one from Lush jungle), Shiinotic, Staryu(you can get one on Hano Beach on Akala Island in the sand patches), and Starmie can have the Illuminate ability. Having a Pokémon with the ability Illuminate in the front of your party will help you encounter more Pokémon. You can encounter wild Pokémon in grass, caves, surfing, through ambush encounters, in moving sand on beaches, and while fishing. Randomly encounter Pokémon in the wild in the hopes that one is shiny. You cannot trade with the older generation of 3DS games X,Y, ORAS are not compatible with the Alolan titles. You are able to trade between Sun and Moon and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, but the Pokémon added into Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon cannot be traded into regular Sun and Moon. This is to help keep anyone from getting confused as to what you can do in each game. I’m going to keep the Ultra versions of these games in a separate wiki entry because they have a handful of differences. Hold down L, R, Start, and Select at the same time
Tapu Koko, Tapu Bulu, Tapu Lele, Tapu Fini, Cosmog, Cosmoem, Solgaleo, Lunala, Nihilego, Buzzwole, Pheromosa, Xurkitree, Celesteela, Kartana, Guzzlord, Necrozma, Zygarde, Magearna, the Totem Pokémon, and the Spearow that attack Nebby in the beginning of the game are all shiny locked. It’s rumored that you’re able to encounter shiny Pokémon in the Sun/Moon Demo, but you can’t transfer them to your Sun/Moon game. You cannot receive this Pokémon, but the trainer does give you six gold nuggets after defeating him. There is a trainer in the Pokémon center on Poni Island that owns a shiny Exeggcute.
